Looking for a Bow (Mid Afternoon-Day 5-Open)

Hikaru bows low and says

"You honor me greatly Tsuruchi-sama. I could never accept such a cherished possession as your own first bow." he is silent for a moment then adds "What material's do Tsuruchi-sama require?"

[Rixy]

"Timber, properly aged, of any sort but softwoods. I can also work with horn, though only if you can get a proper shugenja to purify it first. Your ship might have the right sort of wood on it, if your Captain will release it to you." Kachiro topped off his tea again. "As for my first bow...I would rather it protect the Empire than gather dust."

"This one is not worthy of wielding such a master archer's personal bow." Hikaru says ,refusing again.

"What type of wood is it the Captain may have? I can inquire if he does have it and would be willing to allow you to craft with it."

[Rixy]

"Most ships have good oaken timbers that'd work. If your captain, like most Mantis, carries some of the more exotic timber of his homeland for things like spars or masts, that'd make an ever finer piece. If you lack the time, however, well then...perhaps the spirits in my old bow will enjoy teaching another young samurai so that perhaps one day you, too, could be addressed as a master."

[Ikoma Hikaru]

Hikaru bows and says "You do me great honor again Tsuruchi-sama. I pray that I can live up to the history of you bow and I accept your gift in the spirit it was given. I will also speak with Captain-sama and see about getting you a supply of wood to work with in thanks for your kindness Tsuruchi-sama."

[Rixy]

"Grand!" Saluting with his cup, the Mantis drained it down and then rose, beginning to compile things that, presumably, an archer would need. "You're a novice, you said...basics, then, to start with. When's your next free period? I go on duty in the next hour so I don't have proper time right now to teach you but I'd be happy to show you some things tomorrow."

[Ikoma Hikaru]

"I am on duty on the ship from dawn till this time tomarrow afternoon. Any time other than that I am available Tsuruchi-sama." Hikaru replies with a slight smile on his face.

[Rixy]

"Mmm...let's see...yes, I think a lesson just before sunset (Late Afternoon) could be worked out if I mix it in with my dinner break. You woudn't think less of me for catching a bit or two in between suggestions, I hope...if you like, I bet we could even scrounge up some food for you while we're at it."

A small bundle had been arranged and was now held out. "Here. A few spare strings, wax and cloths to polish the wood, and the straps and fabric for a guard. You'll need to get someone who can sew to help you with one that fits right, I'm less than useless with a needle myself. Get that ready before the lesson or you'll have some impressive bruising to explain away."

[Ikoma Hikaru]

Hikari bows again.

"I would be most honored to share a lesson and meal with you Tsuruchi-sama."

He accepts the package with care and says with a smile.

"I will take your your advice and see about making a guard. I look forward to tomorrow afternoon."

[Rixy]

"So do I. Teaching others what you love is a rare gift."

With respectful hands, the Tsuruchi took down the unstrung yumi, spotless and well-cared for despite it's lack of use, and extended it with the care most reserved for their ancestral katana. "Get a feel for the wood tonight. We'll see how it takes to you on the morrow."

[Ikoma Hikaru]

Hikaru accepts the bow with care and says

"Hai, I shall Tsuruchi-sensi. Thank you again for this chance.I will see you tomarrow."



Hikaru will bow low and then will withdraw unless Kachiro has more to say.
